Our Rotary.Fitness polo shirts and running T’s are made of very light, wicking sports fabrics. They are fantastic for most of the year in Australia, particularly those hot summer days. But clearly, aren’t designed for winter.

John Britton in a Parkrun

John Britton of RC Tuggeranong is a regular at the Saturday morning Parkrun wearing his Rotary running top.

At this early stage, we decided to design a range of a dozen sports as well as some specialty cycling jerseys that we felt would be enough for a ‘proof of concept’. More clothing in winter designs has been tabled for future development.

However, all is not lost when it comes to winter wear. Because these wicking tops are so light, those of us in cooler climates have been wearing long winter clothing and then slipping a Rotary.Fitness shirt over the top. It works surprisingly well.

Last Saturday I decided to join Rotary Club of Tuggeranong’s John Britton in his local Parkrun. John has been participating in the Tuggeranong Parkrun most Saturday mornings since he moved to the ACT.

I’d never done one before last Saturday and was surprised to see just how popular these events are. There are six Parkruns in the ACT and this one had 230 participants. That’s not too bad for a 2C morning at 8 am. Apparently, it gets a lot busier in the warmer weather!

John doesn’t run in the Parkrun, he walks most of the way. In fact, quite a lot of people walk. I walked with him for most of the 5km event and we had a good chat. It is a great social exercise and something that a lot more Rotarians could get involved in.

Parkruns are free, weekly, 5km timed runs and can be found throughout the world. They are open to everyone, always free, safe and easy to take part in. Definitely worth checking out.

The Rotary.Fitness store is taking orders for delivery in Australia only at this time. This is a Fundraising activity for Australian Rotary Health. All items are made to order. Please allow at least 28 days for delivery. Dismiss
