Running for Rotary
Finnish Rotary Youth Exchange Student Martta Arstilla with City2Surf Legend Chris Edwards at Bondi after the 2016 run.
No one could miss the City2Surf Legends in their bright yellow Rotary running shirts at the 2016 City2Surf.

It was a fantastic outing for the Legends and the Rotarians and Friends of Rotary who participated in the ARHsport blue running tops.

The 2016 Sydney City2Surf was the first outing for Australian Rotary Health Sports clothing, and what better way to kick off this health initiative than with the City2Surf Legends in full support of Rotary and Australian Rotary Health.

The City2Surf Legends are all men who have completed every Sydney City2Surf since 1971. This was their 46th run from the city to Bondi Beach, but their first for Rotary.

It was a perfect City2Surf day. Lovely and cool at the start and an ideal temperature for running. By the time we completed the 14km from the city of Sydney to Bondi Beach, you couldn’t have scripted it better.

Fastest Legend: 72 year old Laurie Coleman ran his 46th City2Surf in 72:11
Youth Exchange Student Martta now has two souvenirs to take home, her Rotary Sport shirt and a City2Surf finisher’s medal.
Rotarians enjoying a meal at Bondi. Bruce from Rotary Club of Jerrabomberra, Janine from Rotary Club of Hall and Ben from Rotary Club of Melbourne Park.

Note that Janine is wearing a golf polo. All the ARHsport clothing has been designed so you can support the sport you enjoy but still be easy to identify as an Australian Rotary Health supporter.

Legend Barry Clunas

ARH Ambassador Chris Edwards visited Retiring Legend George Benger in Katoomba Hospital to present him with a Rotary Legend’s running shirt.
We see the Legends turn up each year and run the City2Surf but as the years go on, the group gets a little smaller. Two of the Legends retired in 2016 after 45 runs, George Benger, aged 87, and Lindsay McEachern, aged 85.

There was a lot of concern for 78 year old Barry Clunas who has battled cancer for the last two years. However, Barry could not be stopped. It was a very slow walk, taking him over four hours, but he made it.

Barry, you’ll always be a Legend and an inspiration. Well done.
